Welcome to Kinesis Magazine Online

Welcome to the new incarnation of Kinesis.  The Ausdance (Vic) Board and staff are excited to be back bringing you a quarterly publication.  We intend to make the most of the possibilities offered by an e-publication, and we welcome your suggestions on features you would like to see.

At the time of writing, the Terrain multicultural contemporary dance festival is only days away, and Dance Across the Domains 2006 is also close.  Please come along to these events, see and hear from your peers, and expand your horizons in dance.  Of course, there are special prices for members to attend.  Terrain and Dance Across the Domains will be ongoing initiatives for Ausdance (Vic), continuing into 2007 and 2008.  Lots of information about them is included here, along with a look back at the 5th Australian Youth Dance Festival, with lots of great photos, and more of the news, what’s on and other sections familiar from Kinesis past.

Over the last couple of months, there has been a lot of coming and going in organisations with whom Ausdance (Vic) works and we would like to take a moment here to acknowledge some people.

Dianne Reid departed the role of Artistic Director of Dancehouse at the end of September.  During her time Dianne developed terrific initiatives including Grad Lab and Dance Path, which in turn has led to the ongoing Rotary Youth Arts Project, and programmed some wonderful curated seasons.  We thank Dianne and Dancehouse for their collaborations with Ausdance (Vic), which included a number of Conversation Days, and look forward to continuing work with Dianne’s successor.

As reported in News, Kirsty Ellem departed the Esso BHP Billiton Wellington Entertainment Centre in August, and has taken up a new post as Deputy Director of Asialink Arts.  Kirsty was one of the key players in the successful Kage Physical Theatre Residency in Sale facilitated by Ausdance (Vic) this time last year, and has done much to develop dance practice and audiences in Gippsland.  We congratulate her on her new post.  (And look out next edition for a reflection back on that residency and the momentum it generated locally.  Good luck to Michèle Ripper, and we will ask you to tell us all about ‘Hitting the streets’ next time!).

Bin Dixon-Ward has finished as manager of Creative Communities Victoria at Regional Arts Victoria.  We acknowledge her fantastic work on many landmark arts projects and thank her for her work with Ausdance (Vic) on the Creative Volunteering – No Limits training program.

Dr Michelle Potter left the post of Curator of Dance at the National Library of Australia to take up a prestigious appointment in New York, and we are delighted that former Ausdance National Vice-President Lee Christofis has been appointed to the role.  Read more in News.

Last but not least Ausdance (Vic) welcomes Jeff Khan as the new Artistic Director of the Next Wave Festival, replacing Marcus Westbury who delivered two highly successful festivals in 2004 & 2006.

A very big thank you to David Corbet at Slightly Moving Productions for putting the new online Kinesis together.

We look forward to seeing you at Terrain or Dance Across the Domains, and to bringing you another edition of Kinesis before Christmas.
